... and swinging about in their large cage. They looked very alert and stared back at the people. Some of them clung to the iron bars, waiting for someone to hand them a banana or some peanuts. We left the monkeys’ cage and went to see the elephants. They were wandering loose in an open area, which was surrounded by large deep trenches. Bordering the trenches was a heavy iron fence. The elephants had rough and mildewed-looking skin. Their long and flexible trunks were moving constantly begging someone to give them food. A boy responded and threw some pieces of sugar cane. One elephant used its trunk to catch the sugar cane and lifted up to its mouth. Then the elephant hastily chewed i ...
... When we got to the truck, I ask mom if Jake and I could ride in the back. “Its too cold to ride back there! You’ll freeze to death! And what if we wreck? There aren’t any seat belts back there!” she yelled back. I was hoping she wouldn’t yell like this. Then dad butted in. “What are you two talking about? Why do I always get left out of the conversation?” “Tina wants to know if she and Jake can ride in the back. It’s too cold and if we wreck or something, they won't have seat belts!” mom complained. “I could put the camper shell on and put some tupperware bowls full of hot water in there to heat em’ up a little. Then tie em’ to the sides with some rope. Those holes aren’t there ...
... threatened by the lack of food they receive. Imagining the things they go through everday makes me wonder about my freedoms. Why is it that I can go to my refrigerator whenever I want and be able to get a nice, clean drink of water. When Meanwhile in some foreign country some 10 year old kid, who has the same thirst as I do has to go to a lake where the animals bathe to get a foul, disease infested drink. Knowing about these peoples sufferings really makes me realize how important and how special the freedoms that Americans posses are. I believe everyone takes their freedoms for granted. We are by far granted the greatest freedoms in the world. But we are far from perfect and unfortun ...
... of hand-crafted pillars and intricate woodwork that beautified even the aesthetic sandy ocean beach that encompassed it. As always, after sailing practise, he was greeted by a honk and a wave from his father returning from work. His father was a partner in Jones, Jefferson, and Deveau, the most successful law firm in Nova Scotia. He was able to fund Cobi's sailing career from the start, and his money played a very large role in Cobi's sailing success and popularity. Other than Cobi's majestic surroundings, Cobi led a typical eighteen year-old after school life. He ate, did homework, spoke to his many friends the phone, and then fell asleep with a remote control in his gr ...
... end up going off to college and moving away. Its sad when you realize that all of these events will be gone forever and all that is left is the memories you have of them. All through a persons life there is almost always someone behind you telling you that you should do your best, or that you did well on something. To many, those people are their parents whether they admit it or not. They are always there when you need them and if it was not for them many would not have made it this far. Teachers are another big factor in how well you do, some really could care less whether you make it or not, but for the most part they are there to help you succeed because it is what they love to ...
... underneath I wonder why I am here. Usually at this point I am wishing I were in bed A few others my age are there as well. I am not the only one that some people call crazy. After an hour of drills, sprints, running, and laughing everyone races back to their cars to try to get home and then get to school on time. We all have hands like ice sickles, are hungry as a horse, have feet like ice, and our noses look like Rudolf. I rush home take a three second shower eat my usual pop tart on the way to school and some how manage to plop down in my first period seat just as the tardy bell rings. I have somehow learned to like the crack of the dawn bone chilling morning practices an ...
... dreams I feel great, like a hero, like I accomplished something. I was recently thinking about joining a military service so I could be related to those thoughts. Often, the war dreams occur when I'm angry or have conflict in my life, so maybe it's my way of getting rid of that anger. My war dreams are some of the clearest and fun dreams I have, but I did not have any during this project. Girls, or girl I should say, is one of the main topic of my dreams. I think that is an obvious one! I see my girl-friend every day, and she is always on my mind. My dreams with her get kind of wacky and personal, so I will stop with that subject! I think it's self explanatory. Through out my wr ...
... I thought it was senseless to come here if I only talked with Japanese friends. On the second day, we were divided into teams with three to five Americans on a team. I tried to use my poor English to make American friends, but it was really difficult. First, I could not even introduce myself without looking at my note book in which I had written a few sentences down. Second, the Americans had never had any Asian friends, so they were surprised when I bowed, and they asked me many questions. They tried to understand my English, which sometimes took a few minute, even to ask where the bathroom was. In fact, one of these friends still writes me a couple of times a year, and ...
... to be freindly. "Whats up?" "Well nothing much really. I'm having trouble making friends here." "I know, its tough isn't it," he replied, trying to comfort her. "I just moved here 3 years ago myself. After a few weeks you'll have lots of freinds though." "Thats good," she replied as she looked up at Bob into his eyes. Then there was a moment of silence with just the two of them staring into each others eyes. Then finally Bob broke the silence and said "I know this seems kind of weird," Bob said shyly, "But, would you like to go to a movie with me this weekend?" Jennifer's face brightened up as she exclaimed, "I thought you'd never ask!" ...
... could make new friends. That Tuesday she went to practice. It wasn't as she expected. As she walked in, all the girls started whispering. Jenny didn't have any doubt what it was about. All the girls started doing lay-ups and before Jenny knew it, practice was over. Jenny went to practice after practice and soon found that she wasn't that bad. "Okay Pirates," coach announced. "Tomorrow is our first game. Come over after practice and get your uniform. Remember girls, play hard, have fun and it's the little things that count." "Wow," Jenny said to herself. "Our first game is tomorrow." Jenny went and picked up the uniform. Her jersey looked up at her. (per) It show ...
