... of rock emerged. Led by four young British men known as Paul, John, George and Ringo this music was more like the gateway from Elvis Presley to Jimi Hendrix. Known as the Beatles they stole the hearts of millions of teenage girls with songs such as Michelle and Julia. If you were lucky enough to have one of those names you were idolized for life. This new type of Rock and Roll, sometimes referred to as Hippie Music is probably the most well known because of the unique use of color and face paint which most of the bands more. Kids wore bell bottoms and guys had long hair. Once again the parents rejected. The kids loved it. For three days in August of 1969 on a farm in Woodstock, New ...
... circuitry samples the signal and then reproduces what it has seen. The quality of the recording depends on the sampling rate of the machine. The sampled signal is then encoded to the tape or disc in 1's and 0's, just like a computer disk drive would encode information. However, the biggest advantage of digital recording is the fact that it eliminates tape "hiss" that is usually found present in analogue recordings. In the Eighties, a Philips invention captured the limelight. The Compact Disc introduced us to a new era of digital sound, or "perfect sound." In the nineties another Philips invention has taken centre-stage, the Digital Compact Cassette (DCC). DCC is the marriage of ...
... evolve the band. As the years began to pass, the band was obviously beginning to grow musically. They had moved from simple lyrics like "Love me Do" to harshly aware reflections of life in their home country in "Eleanor Rigby"2. There were attempts, some more successful than others, to incorporate the other Beatles into the idea stage. George Harrison made this leap successfully with such tracks as "I want to tell you", "TAXMAN", and the psychedelic "Love you to". Ringo was featured in the humorous "Yellow Submarine As the group matured, their creativity began to rely more on the effects and manipulations that they were able to produce in the studio. The Beatles agreed to e ...
... and died during their visit. In 1782, Mozart married Constanze Weber against his father's wishes. In 1783, Mozart and Constanze visited Salzburg, where he helped Michael Haydn out of a difficult spot, by writting some violin duets. He completed a set of string quartets, and in so doing, deeply impressed Josef Haydn who was the greatest master of music for string quartets. In 1786, Mozart's London friends took part in the first performance of The Marriage of Figaro. This was a triumph for Mozart in Prague, and he wrote his "Prague" symphony as a tribute to its generous people. In Paris, Mozart published his first works: four sonatas for clavier: with accompanying violin in 1764. In ...
... This means forcing the record back and forth against the needle. A hip hop artists that made it big in the eighties was Afrika Bambaataa who was the leader of the ‘Hip-Hop’ culture. This man organized Zulu Nation which was an organization of break dancers. Run DMC were the first Black rap artists that gained the interest of all races of people. The hip-hop culture is still thriving in the nineties and is better than ever. Now, I would like to break away from the history of hip-hop and talk about one famous hip-hop group that I personally like. This group existed during the beginning growth of hip-hop, but they were not as popular then. This group is the Beastie Boys. May ...
... and Suazo 141). It is widely accepted in word in the rap culture. It is even used by such female rap artists as Lil’ Kim, the self proclaimed “Queen Bitch” and DaBrat who refers to herself as the "baddest new bitch in hip hop" during her song entitled "Give It 2 You." Many of the same people who view rap as offensive to women also say that it promotes violence. Many rappers do sing about violence, but not always to promote it. Those rappers who shun violence are not given the same amount of exposure in the media. Artists such as KRS-One have taken public stands against violence and works through various programs to try to eliminate it. He “has been actively involved with such ...
... musical tastes sent most of the big bands into commercial decline. Eventually, the changed economic realities of touring with a band affected Basie, and in 1950 he was forced to dissolve his large ensemble. For a time he toured with a small group of six to nine players, but by 1952, he had reassembled his big band. This time, written arrangements were normal, and the band had a different sound and style than it had in the 1930s and 1940s. In the 1950s the band featured new soloists. Where as the earlier band emphasized the sound of the soloists over that of the ensemble, the later band favored the ensemble sound of a well-rehearsed, tightly controlled group. From 1954 to 1961 singer Joe ...
... is really in love with her. This song is so moving it makes you believe that this really is in love with the girl. With this love, there is tragedy. “And you can’t fight the tears that ain’t coming, or the moment of truth in your lies.” This line is the saddest part of the whole song. The reality of the two not being able to be together suddenly hits. For reasons unknown, they can not be together, and this is the worst possible thing that can happen to two people who are in love. This is the part of the song that makes it so tragic. “Iris” is one of the best songs I have ever heard. The words are very powerful and it creates a very strong image of two people hopelessly in love. ...
... to operate the bellows since there were upwards of twenty-four bellows per organ (Hopkins & Rimbault 35). Also, with organs of this size, the bellows took up large amounts of space, thus forcing the organ to be located in a fixed place, such as a church. Up until the eleventh century (approximately), pitch and range of organs were extremely limited, mainly in part to the lack of a any style of keyboard. Keys of a sort were introduced around this time, though not in the manner we are accustomed to. “The earliest keyboards were sets of levers played by the hands rather than the fingers.” (Randel 428) They looked similar to large rectangles “ an ell long and three inches wide” (Hopkins ...
... his own devices and “ ending up 6 feet underground” because “ he needs to kill his pain”. In addition to showing that death is the ultimate end, this also shows that happiness only exists in the present. By needing “to kill his pain” Dave shows that he is unhappy and troubled at the present time and needs relief immediately. Since the song is mostly about dying and relieving pain there are many examples of the ultimate end and the pursuit to find happiness in the present. “In my grave lying wired and shut and quiet… leave it to me to waste here.” Through reading the lyrics one can get a sense of self-condemnation to live in Matthews’ personal hell. In following with the existent ...
