... uneasy feeling, making me want to stay away even more. He never took any time to help me with school, car or money. I always had to work to earn everything, the only thing I wasn't paying for was rent. In turn I wanted little to do with my father, stepmother or brother, never contributing or helping out. I even stopped going with them on vacations. The feelings I had were that I just wanted to be alone by myself, independent. For four months after the accident I was unable to do anything that I had previously done in the normal routine of my life. With a full leg and hand cast I spent almost all my time during the four months recovering on the couch in the living room. I finished ...
... the world. This was a project where I could help use my skills to help others. This project was not only about helping those less fortunate than myself. This was a project that would help build my confidence, and help realize what a joy it is to me to help those who are in need. Because of my exposure to this and other community service projects, I know that I want to keep assisting those who need help. I want to keep climbing up this ladder. I want to keep assessing my skills to answer to the needs of people in my community, while making myself a better person. To sum it up, I think I should recieve this scholarship because of my financial need, my potential to grow into a community le ...
... came an especially bad morning. It had been very foggy the previous night, and by the morning the fog had greatly thickened. Before leaving for work my dad reminded me to ask my mom to take me to school. I thought, “I’ve been driving for a few months, I can handle it.” So I proceeded to drive to school. The fog was so thick that I could not see more than a few feet ahead of me. Out of no where I saw a little dog appear in front of my car. There was no way I could avoid hitting it so I swerved to the right and hit the side of the dog. I was so shaken up that I could not even get out of my car to see if the dog was okay. Finally after about 10 minutes I got out of my car and looked for t ...
... I knew that if I didn’t switch lanes rapidly I would have to drive two to three more miles on a very slow moving traffic. I decide to begin switching lanes, I successfully transferred from the left lane to the middle lane even though there was hardly any space between cars. I turned my turning signal on and slowly began to switch to the right lane. The car next to me didn’t give a chance to switch so I moved back to the middle lane. After twenty to thirty seconds I looked at my rear view mirror and noticed a police car coming in the right lane, I saw that after the police there was a gap in where I could switch lanes. When the police car passed me, I slowly began to move my car to the ...
... almost eerie feeling, one you get before riding a roller coaster, came to me. No one else seemed to complain, so I attempted to ignore the issue by putting myself to sleep. Over 45 minutes had past before I was awaken so abruptly by the grasp of my dad large hand on my shoulder. "Time for lunch!" quaintly said with a jolly cheer hidden deep in his voice. One after another we trickled from the car, emptying quite quickly. I took a large deep breath of what I assumed would be fresh air. Instead, I coughed. The air wreaked of exhaust and was dry, concentrated with dust. It was my fault I hadn't observed the large sign reading "Trucking Pit Sto". The letter "p" appeared to ...
... to the deadly effects of unprotected sex. I feel as teachers earn tenure, they are more likely to effect the students in a more personably manner. Having a stable and open classroom, I feel the students will learn more and be a respected citizen in our society. In this project I will discuss, prayer in the classroom, AIDS and tenure. Prayer in school is a controversial issue that must be considered and dealt with as quickly as possible. All people should feel free to worship and have loyalties to whichever religion they choose. If no religion is chosen, then the feelings of the person should be considered as will. Everyone has an opinion on this subject, but everyones opinion should ...
... for the fact that the period of time my mother was in the hospital fell on her birthday. So, all of the family, except me, sat down next to the stereo. My father plugged in a microphone, popped in a blank cassestte and hit record. Each one of the children started to sing "Happy Birthday", then ended with a personal message. My father then recorded his message. I was in so much shock and horror that I didn't want to record anything. I was under the belief that my mother wasn't coming home at all. My family kept trying to get me to record something, but, I refused. After about a week or two of my mother being in the hospital, the whole family got in the car, and went to visit her. Be ...
... all the pictures with people in them, nobody had a smile on their face. That solidified the impression I had that people weren't happy working in the mills. The quotations from former mill workers also exhibited their unhappiness. Grace May Burk, a former mill worker said, “Work started at 6:30 a.m. and ended at 5:30 p.m., on Saturdays work ended at noon. We got Saturday afternoons off, big deal. No matter how much money I was being paid, I would not work those hours every day. The people of the nineteenth century worked those hours and for little pay. Leona Bacon Pray, another former mill worker was a child when she worked in the mill. She said, “When I collected my ...
... us when we entered, it was cold. If they did, it wasn't. "Lock and load," I yelled. The helicopter circled low and slowed down until it almost hovered four feet from the ground. The door gunner mashed the spade grips on his .30 caliber M60 machine gun. The gun spewed bullets over the field below us. It was time to jump off the skids while we skimmed above the surface of the lush, green valley. My stomach felt like it was turning wrong-side-out. We dropped into the grass, stumbling under heavy packs and the weight of ammo and weapons. I wondered about snakes and hoped the groan I mad when I hit the ground was drowned by the noise of the helicopters. Though the helicopter gunner ...
... Newspaper. The recipe was named the Toll House Cookie. One day Nestlé was going over their reports and they found that sales for chocolate bars rose rapidly in the Boston area. This was because the chocolate bars were the primary ingredient in the Toll House Cookies. When Nestlé found out what was up they started making their chocolate bars with score lines on them for easier breaking. This was ok but still not easy enough. So to solve this problem they made morsels (miniature chocolate kisses)and bought the Toll House name. With that they called them Nestlé Toll House Morsels. Did you also know that the chocolate chip cookie is the most popular cookie in America? The Toll House ...
