... arm. My heart sank as I searched for the open wound. My first thought was that he cut a vein in his wrist and panic raced through my body with the fear that he would bleed to death before I could get him to the hospital. As quickly as I could, I grabbed him from the floor and ran to the bathroom to get a towel and wrapped it around his wrist. I flew out the door and down the street to a neighbor, bare feet and all. I pounded on the door like a maniac and screamed "help, my son is bleeding to death." She let me in and took Travis from me. Her boyfriend, Bill, who happened to be friends with my boyfriend, was at ther house. She handed Travis to Bill so she could calm me down. I was s ...

... more for us than our country could offer. He worked very hard, and due to his effort, in March 1999 three of us joined him here in Washington, DC. Upon my arrival, I had to face challenges of language and different social customs, my accent made it difficult to communicate with others. I had to make new adaptations in order to excel in unfamiliar surrounding. Even though I always looked forward to living the American dream, a place for opportunities, I knew that it was easy. I know I am an achiever because I have found within myself the mental and moral strength to pursue my dream in the face of hardship and pain. I have overcome that fear of making tough decisions of whether or not I ...
... to Germany. Hamburg. It's an ugly city, but we enjoyed it anyway. Yes, teaching. I got Arnaud to travel around Germany a bit, and we came back through France. No, I wish I had learnt it, but since I taught my students in French it didn't matter too much. And of course they all speak English. When we got back. The time we were there was fine. We'd rented it out to a couple from Qu‚bec City. They seemed nice, and we didn't want it to sit empty for six months. We charged them less than we should have, but that didn't seem to matter. No, we didn't really know them. We put an ad in the paper, and they answered it. Oh, they paid us. After ...
... boy continued to hold the doll. After a bit I asked the boy who the doll was for. He said, "It is the doll my sister wanted so badly for Christmas. She just knew that Santa would bring it." I told him that maybe Santa was going to bring it. He said, "No, Santa can't go where my sister is . . . I have to give the doll to my mamma to take to her." I asked him where his sister was. He looked at me with the saddest eyes and said, "She has gone to be with Jesus. My daddy says that mamma is going to have to go be with her." My heart nearly stopped beating. Then the boy looked at me again and said, "I told my daddy to tell mamma not to go yet. I told him to tell her to wait till I got b ...
... I drew the second band on stage out of nine. The best position to be in is about fourth or fifth band because that is when the crowd starts getting into the music. Pissed off I haphazardly wandered back to my group to inform them of my greatest mistake. We loaded the equipment into the worlds slowest elevator, and stumbled our way to the backstage lounge. After I had read graffiti covered walls until my heart was content I noticed much writing by some of my favorite groups like Nine Inch Nails, Marilyn Mansion, Korn, and The Dead Milkmen. Inspired by them I also signed the wall with some chosen words. The time had rolled around for the first band to hit the stage. Excited, w ...
... Stepping off the bus in Frisco, Colorado we looked back knowing that we were not to see civilization for at least a month. There were 8 men and women in my group from all over the country. Each one had a unique personality not knowing that we would all become closer to each other than family, possibly being dependent during life threatening situations which we experienced on many occasions. This in itself could be another long story. By the end of this section we were required to do what they call a solo. In addition to rest up for the 15 mile marathon and finals, (a week of travel) this was also used for reflecting on our experiences. The solo was for three days. During these three days we ...
... but it would give me a chance to attend a prestigious university. When asking the majority of my friends what colleges they are applying to, I get the response of UMASS, Michigan, Wisconsin, etc.… In return, I give them my answer of "I want to attend Indiana University. Praying that I will receive an acceptance letter by the end of the millennium, and attending college in Indiana in the fall of 2000." Coming down Great Neck Ave. is the Indiana University Admissions office. Holding my dreams and aspirations at your fingertips, I have nothing other to possibly do, except for send this application, in reluctance of my acceptance. I thank you for all of your time and patience and hop ...
... as well as listen to the sounds of nature. I hear many sounds; the ribbit of a dirty-green plump frog hidden amongst the underbrush, chirps of birds high in the sky, and the soft wind as it rustles leaves on the trees. The most amazing scene I have witnessed many times along this pond is the ducks. Every few days, I see a family of ducks traveling across the green grass. The smallest duck, no more than 4 inches tall, would march proudly near the end of the pack. I see sparse, thin clumps of down over his otherwise bare self as he bellows, with his newborn duckling voice, a high pitched quack. As my eyes follow the family towards the frond of the line, the elder ducks appear c ...
... slaves were shy. We did not talk to each other. As a matter of fact, we only talked to people we knew. We barley had a chance to talk to others because we were hard at work. Because of the treatment and conditions of life, we were shy. As I said, these conditions of life were horrible. For example we were beaten and abused by our master because we dropped a glass full of water. I was hurt physically and mentally. Like I said we were abused and beaten by our master. We were not only beaten and abused, but we were also hard workers. We can do a lot in a day. I picked crops and cooked food for the master and his family. My day started at 5:00 a.m. and ended at 7:00 p.m. Just be ...
