... army by 1815, and several others followed suit. In the 1850's, many soldiers from the Bengal army were alienated and lost some of their pay and prestige. There were rumors of gun cartridges being greased with animal fat from cows and pigs, which came as an insult to the integrity of the some of the soldiers. I consider myself an avid reader of news periodicals, Time, Newsweek, etc., which often deal with the generation gap that exists today from the point of view of older generations. It is my opinion that any time the term Generation X is mentioned in these magazines, it is done in a way that makes us all seem like apathetic Beavis and Butt-Head followers, who play too many video games and spend too much time at the mall. When reading these articles, I can't help but think about Bob Dylan, 30 years ago, singing to the parents of his generat ...
... looming, it was vital that order was to be maintained during such tumultuous times. Although the constitution was already enshrined and the citizens had their freedom and liberties, there was still plenty of public dissent and disapproval as to whether or not these laws would help create a new government and prevent the country from breaking apart. The people had come this far and were not prepared to watch their efforts lead to failure or the restoration of an absolute monarch. As a result, the radical forces were able to gain the support of the citizens in declaring that the constitution of 1791 was ineffective and useless since it did not suit the needs of ALL the popula n of France. ...

Many of the humans then could not find any food when the plants died, so they had to put all their ideas together to think of hunting any kind of animal. Many of the animals they hunted included buffalo, and buffalo was the main animal besides the fish they caught. They also shot and speared different kinds of birds. However, the AFL retreated from its Marxian origins to become a profoundly conservative organization restricted to the ranks of skilled, white males. This restrictive policy was a major flaw of the AFL and kept them from gaining the numbers and strength that it may have attained. These policies came directly from the ideas of the AFL’s longtime leader Samuel Gompers. Gompers believed that labor should accept the existing capitalist economy but try and get a larger share for labor by way of higher ...
... enslave the 'degenerate' Slavs and he wanted to obliterate their 'Jewish Bolshevist' government before it could turn on him. His 1939 pact with Stalin was only meant to give Germany time to prepare for war. As soon as Hitler controlled France, he looked east. Insisting that Britain was as good as defeated, he wanted to finish off the Soviet Union as soon as possible, before it could significantly fortify and arm itself. 'We only have to kick in the front door and the whole rotten edifice will come tumbling down'ii he told his officers. His generals warned him of the danger of fighting a war on two fronts and of the difficulty of invading an area as vast as Russia but, Hitler simply ove ...

B-29 superfortress opened its bomb bay doors over Hiroshima, at the time, a military center and the seventh largest city in Japan, and dropped a single weapon with a destructive capacity of biblical proportions. The crew on board and the team of scientists who developed the bomb were not sure whether the weapon would detonate. Nor were they sure what would happen if it did. In the split second in which a blinding flash of light told the crew of its success, approximately seventy thousand souls, who until that fateful moment, had been going about their normal everyday lives, perished, and the world changed. The intense heat of the explosion horribly burned those not killed or vaporized i ...
... would like to be your friends." As contradicting as it would be in our society today, the whiskey was symbolic of friendship and trust to the Native Americans and the white people. This was not so true, though, in the second selection. In How America was Discovered, the author tells of a young minister who is in search of the Creator, and little to his knowledge, actually discovers the devil. The devil convinces the young man to bring across the ocean five items, one of which was whiskey, and if he did, he would receive a great reward. In doing so, it caused uproar of carelessness. It was clearly obvious that the whiskey was symbolic of evil, not only for the fact that it involved the ...
