... Bible states Joseph was sold for twenty pieces of silver while the Koran does not tell of a specific amount. After Joseph was sold into Egypt, both accounts tell of how, his brothers had his clothes stained with an animal's blood and told their father that Joseph was devoured by a wild beast. After Joseph was sold into Egypt he became very favored by his master, the Pharaoh. In the Biblical account, Pharaoh so trusted Joseph that he entrusted to him everything. The Bible records that Joseph was a goodly person and well favored (Genesis 39:6). Joseph is tempted with Pharaoh's wife who seeks to seduce him. She bolts the doors and says, "Come!" Joseph replies, "My lord has treated me ...
... persons of all ranks. Military plans were drawn up but, in the end, no great army ever assembled or departed from Europe's shores. Instead, in a twist of irony, the Vatican wound up hosting an infidel in the form of Prince Djem, the sultan's brother. This arrangement confused the general public and the papal status fell in the eyes of the public. Papal status was further weakened by Innocent's successor Alexander VI. Alexander thrived on simony. He acquired the office of pope by buying out his chief rivals and openly boasted about this feat. Alexander went on to sell a total of 43 cardinalships, including to his own family. After the murder of his eldest son, Alexander was inspired ...
... amount of truth to them and do good in one form or another, but it is only their religion that is " the only true and living church upon Earth". In 1820 , Mormonism was founded by a teenage Joseph Smith during the 19th century United States religious movement known as the "Second Great Awakening". On April 6, 1830, The Book of Mormon was completed and a new religion was born. Mormonism attracted many people and the firs official home of the Mormons was in Fayette, New York. In 1831, the Mormons moved to Kirtland, Ohio, now known as Kirtland Hills. Other Mormon areas were being established, especially in Mississippi. Newly proclaimed Mormons were rushing to their new religious grounds, ...
... as they apply to Taoism and Buddhism. The goal in Taoism is to achieve tao, to find the way. Tao is the ultimate reality, a presence that existed before the universe was formed and which continues to guide the world and everything in it. Tao is sometimes identified as the Mother, or the source of all things. That source is not a god or a supreme being as with Christians, for Taoism is not monotheistic. The focus is not to worship one god, but instead on coming into harmony with tao. Tao is the essence of everything that is right, and complications exist only because people choose to complicate their own lives. Desire, ambition, fame, and selfishness are seen as hin ...
... own ways to the Constantinople, where they would meet and regroup. They would attack the Turkish forces in Constantinople and hope to regain control of the city. The large Christian armies talked to Alexius I Comnenus, the Byzantium emperor, and agreed to return any of his old land that was recaptured. The armies were skeptical of this demand but agreed anyway. The first attack by the crusaders was on Anatolian, the Turkish capital. Meanwhile the Byzantians were also trying to recapture Anatolian, and later that year, the city surrendered to the Byzantians instead of the crusaders. The Byzantians were using the crusaders as pawns to achieve their own goals. The crusaders again met and ...
... his good teachings and preaching. That is why today many approach the term resurrection in conjunction with Jesus. In the book, The reality of Jesus we come across a section known as the "The Pauline Evidence". This particular section interested me because Paul makes a contrast between two types of bodies. One type is the physical body (soma psuchikon) of which we are in now. Soma is the man's body and personality which is a quality of the inner being. The second type is the spiritual body (soma pneumatikon) which is life after death. In this body, the flesh is said to be transformed through resurrection and filled with the spirit. This becomes clear to us that resurrection is a ...
... is a religion of violence, and one notices when looking at world religion on a whole, one finds that Islam was no more violent than any other religion. In fact, not only is Islam not a fundamentally violent philosophy, but we can also see that many other religions normally considered "non-violent," such as Christianity or Hinduism, have been spread through bloody conquest. Thus, in searching for a universal constant of history, we ought not fall into the "fallacy of abstractions," as Sydney J. Harris keenly puts it, and assume that because of isolated incidents and conflicts of territorial ambitions, that all religions have violent tendencies. Islam has, throughout the centu ...
... 24:45-47 records that just before His ascension, opened the disciples' understanding. It was necessary that their understanding be opened, and many today need this same operation in order to understand the Scriptures. Then said to them, "Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day." The disciples had their understanding opened so that they could grasp the vast importance of the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ. Verse 47 describes the commission that then gave: "And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations [Jews and Gentiles], beginning at Jerusalem." Peter was one of that numbe ...
... I decided there must be something wrong if the person who is supposed to be the mouth piece of God cant tell me the answers. One problem that I have with is their bible. The bible says that a great flood took place to rid the world of sins and sinners. It also says that "even the tallest mountains were covered with water", which means that the water covering the earth was five and a half miles deep. If the earth had ever been covered with water that deep, it would still be covered with water that deep, since there is a finite amount of water on this planet that simply evaporates and falls back to earth as rain. Members of this religion also believe that on can not be a good Christian ...
... It is the rebirth of the soul in another body after death. Hindu people believed the action of the people in their life were rewarded or punished in their next life. The Social affect this religion had on its people was that the caste system and its believes provided an organized society in which people believed social mobility comes only through reincarnation. Christianity believes that there is only one true God, Jesus, the Son of God and redeemer of human kind. They also believed in the Ten Commandments which were the love of God and thy neighbor, preaching of brotherhood and equality which attracted the support of poor slaves, and the refusal to worship the emperor. This effected the s ...
