... the buying of clerical positions, was common, as was the practice of priests being married. In 910, Duke William of Aquataine wanted to do something to correct this problem. He founded the abbey of Cluny, which was an independent monastery. Cluny was kept independent from any kind of secular control. It sought to bring back the ideals of the original monasteries. This came to be known as the Cluniac movement. With the new relative stability in the church, cathedral schools developed. These were schools attached to cathedrals where religious and secular men could be trained. By the thirteenth century, there were different religious orders among the monasteries. Two main orders were ...
... is what leads our lives. It is like a drug to some of us, and to others, a mere item that is with us for life. Those that are addicted seem to dig deeper and deeper for a better meaning, a greater knowledge of it. Those that care less, look to it as though it is simply a matter of consequence. We ourselves determine the method of thinking which makes us addicted or un-addicted. Our freedom to choose leads us to find whether or not meaning is important to us. Ordinary and unordinary situations tend to lead our thinking to a new light, or completely twist it the other way. As humans, we seek to find logical, meaningful ways, whether we know it or not. We may not realize that we are search ...
... knowledge from Apollo onto those who came to it. Another reason people looked to Apollo was to help heal the sick and the dying, because he is associated with medicine, probably because of his vast knowledge. Dionysus, on the other hand, represents the Play side of life. He is the god of emotions, the god of wine, and also the god of fertility. Some things attributed to Dionysus are the dithyrambs, or choral hymns, sung for him but the people. This was how they praised him. Drama is also directly associated with him. Being the god of wine and the god of fertility led to some very strange things in situations where Dionysus prevailed over Apollo. Many drunken orgies took place during this ...
... bad memory, only good and bad learners. Depending on the amount of attention a person gives to something depends on how well a person will remember that fact or event. Beginning at the age of 50, people of similar ages begin to differentiate more and more from one another in their mental performance. Some memories drop noticeably, but many stay the same or even rise. Most investigators agree that no mental decline occurs before the age of 65 or 70 that affects a person's ability to function in the real world (Schrof 89). In many societies today, such as in China, elders are considered the wisest amongst their people, and are very well respected. There are many elderly people who are or ha ...
... come up tomorrow, but I see what Hume is trying to get at. Everything that is thought to be definite can change. There is no proven facts that say the sun will come up tomorrow, we just assume it will. In Hume's writing, assumption is a dangerous word. Assumption is made up of what you believe and what you don't. I can believe light will turn on when I hit the switch, but I can not rule out the fact that it will not turn on. It is probable that the light will turn on, but not definite. Hume says probabilities are what the mind is consuming during everyday life. Science give the facts because it has been tested and proved. "Everyday life" hasn't been proven by science. One exam ...
... to respect democratic rights and freedoms could not be adequately resolved as long as security intelligence responsibilities remained part of the Federal police force. In 1970, following the report of the Mackenzie Commission, John Starnes, a Foreign Service officer with the Department of External Affairs, became the first civilian Director General of the RCMP Security Service. Although the RCMP became more flexible problem arose due to the different natures of security intelligence work and police work. In August 1981, the feral government announced that a security intelligence service, separate from the RCMP would be established. The first legislation to establish the security intellige ...

Some work as consultants to business firms or to government, while others test and inspect foods, drugs, and other products or write for technical publications. some work in sales and service jobs for companies manufacturing chemicals or other technical products. Advances in basic biological knowledge, especially at the genetic level, have resulted in a new technology called biotechnology. Biologists using this rapidly developing technology recombine the genetic material of animals or plants, making organisms more productive or disease resistant. The first application of this technology has been in the medical and pharmaceutical area. The human ...

I don’t like to admit it, but its the truth. Like any son or daughter, I would be devastated if anything ever happened to them before their time. The ...
... did missionary work, and put on skits. All of these activities involved Christ in some way, and helped the younger generation to realize that being spiritual was not “uncool.” When I attended the FCA meetings, it was the one time that I actually felt free from all my problems. FCA helped me to find my spiritual self and gave me a sense of completion. Religion is the main source of morals and values today. I feel like many people today are not following the word of God. I think that religion is overlooked, and not taught enough. For example, colleges, high schools, and many other places are not even allowed to pray, teach or preach the word of the bible. I feel like tha ...
