... not a commodity, you don't exist! Of course there are many elements of our lives that exist outside the economy. There's a lot going on in our lives that's not-for-profit and that can't be denominated in dollars. "The best things in life are free," the old saying goes. Nice old saying. Gets a little older-sounding every day. Sounds about as old and mossy as the wedding vow "for richer for poorer," which in a modern environment is pretty likely to be for-richer-or poorer following our prenuptial agreement. Commercialization, a favorite buzzword of mine. It's a very powerful phenomenon. It's getting more powerful year by year. Now we all must ask ourselves is anything really free? Is there s ...
... The owner or employer must not use sources of pressure, such as money or political power, to speed up the process due to the fact that this might cause great harm to members of the public. Also the owner must not "cut corners" to save money or add personal benefit. These responsibilities must be met for every project when regarding building codes. Professional agencies of engineering may step into any project if they are notified or suspect that a project is not built to the ethics that it should be. They may do many things once they intervene or review the project. They may stop the project for further review or corrections. If an engineer has drastically broken the code of engineeri ...
... are spreading to the suburbs, where this is a cheap way to make schools safer, just by making students wear these uniforms. This shows that, it’s possible for all students to be able to find a way to get these uniforms to schools. It also shows that, were there are places with a lot of violence and hopefully their uniforms could helps these students. However, uniforms could be a pricey engagement. This shows that, some and most people won’t be able to afford uniforms. This also shows that, this will not solve all of the society’s problems with schools. Uniforms could really change the perspective of students in more than one way. Uniforms will solve many of the toughest problems becau ...
... created and supported by a government violate the very essence of the spirit in which the US was formed. (Haas35) Therefore, having a prayer in school would be unconstitutional. “A radical amendment would attack the heart and soul of the bill of rights which safeguards the rights of the individual from tyranny of the individual.” (Jasper96) Teachers are public employees, paid by the taxpayers. The time it takes to recite a prayer is an expenditure of tax dollars. (Haas36 ) This is a violation of the separation of church and state. This whole issue is a big waste of time because students do have the right to pray at school. No one can stop them from praying individually, silently, or per ...
... in Nepal. The start of the tourist industry became a very important asset to the Nepalese economy. The foreign exchange was one of the primary sources of earning for the people and government. This happened to be one of the few positives that came along with the commercialization of Mount Everest. One of the articles I focused on the most is titled; Impact of Tourism on the Ecosystem of Nepal. It discussed in great detail how important the land and its uses are to the people of the Himilayas. At many of the bases of the mountain there is little vegetation and forest remaining to cover the lower slopes. This article made it very clear that man was creating a very big prob ...
... on those who are not rich. The practice of is glaring in parts of India where the status of women is less important than . All these do indicate how the positions of women has brought down in the Indian society. This necessarily shapes a different bent of mind and attitudes of people in the contemporary Indian society in general and urban society in particular. Some people says in modern time in India is not a chance event but a product of emergence and development of social forces over a period of time. Going back to past traditions marriage, to an Indian is one of the twelve sacraments enjoyed upon religion for purifying the body from inherited taints. So it is a religious necessity ...
... to a standard of living adequate for the health and well being of himself and of his family, including food, clothing, housing, and medical care and necessary social services, and to the right to security in the event of unemployment, sickness, disability, widowhood, old age or other lack of livelihood in circumstances beyond his control. This is a step in the right direction. However, this is not enough. These rights are subject to the discretion of the government of the country who decides to obey these universal rights. How much is "adequate"? The government, both at the federal and municipal levels, is currently working on new spending cuts. These ...
... the are more humane than others. In the 1920's people decided that lethal gas, or the gas chamber, was more humane than death by electrocution. Nevada was the first state to adopt the gas chamber as their form of execution. The "Humane Death Bill" was passed abolishing all other forms of execution (Hanging or firing squad were the only other two forms of execution at that time) in the state of Nevada, this bill was signed by the governor on March 28, 1921. Not long after electrocution was tried as being inhumane, the gas chamber was challenged as being cruel and unusual punishment also. Gee Jon and Hughie Sing were the first two people to be sentenced to die by lethal gas. Justice Colema ...
... by the Popes and the Councils. If a Pope has held that Matthew’s gospel was written first, then it is very difficult for Catholic theologians to argue that that isn’t true, and that Mark’s gospel, for instance, was in fact the first written. Within this essay I shall be looking at different approaches to the issue before going on to try and find the most convincing solution, should that be possible. The history of doctrine in the early nineteenth century was seen by catholic theologians as being one of pure, unsullied teaching that had been handed down by the church from the time of the Fathers to the present day. There may have been changes of language, but the concepts behind them rem ...
... becoming more popular among our youths. For some people, especially those that have lived in a gang-infested neighborhood for many years, it is unavoidable. For many they see it as their only future. Yet for others the attraction of belonging to a gang stems from loneliness or a need of belonging. These gangs can provide that sense of belonging. Not only can a gang provide a sense of belonging. They are structured into a closely-knit family like environment. They are ruled by a well-established hierarchy and provide a peer group in which a member can associate with, a group of elders to teach and guide them, and also strong, masculine figures to model themselves after. Their strength is i ...
