This memoir as said in the foreword, written by Jonathan Raban is "unforced, unsentimental, often dryly funny, it has the ring of experience itself insisting of making itself manifest in writing. It tells the story of what now must seem a tragic episode in American history, but it tells it with artful reticence, withholding the tragedy, yet letting it impinge, by suggestion, on the narrative."
