Birches is a nostalgic poem filled with fond memories and fantasies, yet there is a longing for escape underwritten in the clever choice of words. Robert Frost sets up a conversation with someone’s present self and this person’s self as a youn .... Middle of Term Paper ... broke in” (21). The response “I should prefer to have some boy bend them” (23) tells the reader he is fantasizing again. The man begins to remember “some boy too far from town to play baseball, /Whose only play was what he found himself” (25-26). The man is thinking about his own childhood where he was secluded but still content because he was creating his own happiness.
