... The setting of Mother Night occurs in several different countries. Howard spends most of his childhood in Schenectady, New York. When his father, an engineer for the General Electric Company, is reassigned, the family moves to move to Berlin, Germany. After World War II, Howard is secreted by the CIA back to New York to escape extradition for crimes committed while under cover.
