Another example that shows that Atticus is a good parent is when Scout uses profanity in front of Uncle Jack. To deal with this situation, Atticus tells Uncle Jack that if they don’t pay attention to her she’ll get over this "stage". I believe it takes a lot more control to ignore the comment and continue doing what you were as opposed to punishing the child for such a minor incident.
