In Gimpel the Fool, the character of Gimpel’s wife, Elka is portrayed as a manipulative, insensitive, adulteress. Where Golde would silence Tevye because his speeches were tiresome to her, Elka would simply make fun of Gimpel, keeping him quiet because he did not know how or want to retaliate. “Look who’s here!
