Immediately after reading, for the first time, Plato’s Allegory of the Cave I wrote: He has been imprisoned in his ignorance. Once freed, he chooses to stay in his prison of ignorance because this is all he knows and all he wants to know.

People with a lower level of intelligence refuse to except this and therefore deem the others as crazy and try to keep them in the dark as well. This process happens all the time to anyone who publicly tries to change what society is accustomed to.
This applies to the peace movement of the 1960’s. What began with wholesome idealism and great expectations ended in alienation and rejection.
